Differential Work

How your differential keeps you moving The power generated in your vehicle makes several stops before actually rotating your wheels. One of these stops is your differential.

This system is responsible for slowing the rotational speed within the transmission so it can accurately and safely spin your vehicle's wheels. The differential also aims power at the individual driven wheels, allowing them to rotate at different speeds.

Your differential ensures the wheels move when and how you need them to in order to move your vehicle forward and back, but also get it safely through turns without putting undue strain on the vehicle.

What do all those lights mean? Your vehicle knows when something isn't going the way it is supposed to – even if you can't tell. One of the ways it lets you know is with the indicator lights on your dash. You can probably recognize the fuel light — but what do those other lights mean?

The service indicator lights on your dash are meant to signal you to problems in your vehicle. If you see one pop on, you know there may be something wrong—but that is all you know. The light doesn't tell you exactly what is wrong.

Some problems with your vehicle have other, more telling indications such as strange sounds, strange smells, changes in performance or leaking fluids. If you don't see any of these signs, however, you may be baffled by the light.
